Changzhou accelerates competitiveness in new energy vehicle industry
Font:〖L M S
In recent years, Changzhou has emerged as a powerhouse in the new energy vehicle (NEV) and NEV core components industry. The spotlight recently fell on the city with the debut of the Xiaomi SU7, revealing that crucial components like battery packs, sensors, and high-pressure connectors all hail from Changzhou. The city's NEV success story is a testament to a synergy of factors: an extensive industrial chain, the dynamic growth of pioneering enterprises, and proactive government support. Boasting over 160 EV battery suppliers, Changzhou leads the charge with a comprehensive industrial chain that spans the gamut of NEV products—from battery packs and electric motors to power electronics controllers, car bodies, and chassis. Notably, three of the world’s top ten EV battery suppliers by installed capacity call Changzhou home, solidifying its position at the helm of the NEV industrial chain nationwide. Moreover, Xinbei district’s NEV equipment industrial cluster has earned recognition as a national exemplar among small and medium-sized enterprises. At the forefront of this NEV revolution are key players like CATL’s Liyang plant, which recently joined the prestigious Global Lighthouse Network by the World Economic Forum, adding the third Lighthouse to the battery industry. Meanwhile, Li Auto and BYD’s Changzhou facilities surged ahead, collectively producing a staggering 678,000 NEVs in 2023—an impressive 97.3% increase from the previous year. CALB and Xingyu Automotive Lighting System cemented their positions in the top 100 Chinese auto parts suppliers for 2023, ranking 22nd and 50th, respectively. To bolster market participation, Changzhou has launched the Longteng Action, aimed at facilitating local companies' efforts to reform share structures and go public. By 2025, the initiative targets to propel 60 NEV auto parts suppliers into the public sphere. Meanwhile, an all-scenario intelligent connected testing base  has gathered more than ten NEV testing centers and public service platforms, contributing to the further improvement of the NEV testing and certification ecosystem.
